What is a Class P Permit in Kenya.

The Class P Permit is issued to foreign staff working for the United Nations, Diplomatic Missions, Intergovernmental Organizations, or International NGOs accredited to hardship neighboring countries. It is also issued to those staff stationed in such neighboring hardship countries but who need to be based in Kenya.

Who Qualifies for the Class P Permit?

  • Staff of the United Nations (UN)
  • Employees of Diplomatic Missions
  • Staff of Intergovernmental Organizations (IGOs)
  • Personnel working for International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs)
  • Those accredited or posted to hardship neighboring countries but operating from Kenya

Requirements for Class P Permit Application

  1. Duly filled and signed Form 25 (submitted online and printed)
  2. Two (2) recent passport-size colored photos
  3. Copy of valid passport (bio-data page)
  4. Current immigration status in Kenya (if applicable)
  5. Signed cover letter from the employer/organization addressed to the Director General of Immigration Services
  6. Proof of employment (employment contract or appointment letter)
  7. Laissez Passer or diplomatic passport
  8. Certificate of registration of the organization in Kenya
  9. Posting letter to the hardship neighboring country
  10. Proof of remuneration (e.g. payslips or bank statements for the last 3 months)

  • Issuance Fee (Per Year): USD 1,000

How to Apply for a Class P Work Permit in Kenya

  1. Visit the official Kenya Immigration Portal and create an account.
  2. Fill in the online Form 25 with accurate personal and professional information.
  3. Upload the required documents as listed above.
  4. Submit the application and print the completed Form 25.
  5. Pay the non-refundable processing fee of USD 200.
  6. Wait for the application to be reviewed. If approved, you will be required to pay the issuance fee of USD 1,000 per year.
  7. Collect the permit upon issuance notification from the Directorate of Immigration Services.
